"But seek first his kingdom and
his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Matthew
6:33
Now that the new year is upon us,
many people with the best of intentions have begun to put their new year's
resolutions in to practice. Bob, the mailman, has vowed to quit smoking, and
Sandra, the beautician, has pledged to devote more time to her children.
Likewise, Dr. Marshall, is determined to learn a new language, and Martha, his
receptionist, is making losing fifty pounds her priority in the new year.
It's wonderful to desire better
for our lives, and the start of another year certainly gives one a good excuse
to start anew, however, with all the promises, hopes, resolutions and
intentions, somewhere along the line many people have forgotten to consider the
most important decision of all; the start of a new relationship with God.
When God is situated at the head
of our life as He deserves, everything else naturally falls in to place. The
Bible confirms this: "Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but
violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked."
Proverbs 10:6
Scriptures also confirm that if
your earthly parent knows how to give gifts to one's (earthly) children, then
don't you think your Heavenly Father, God, can bless HIS children even
exceedingly more abundant above all that we ask or think? Of course!
"If you then, though you are
evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
Luke 11:13
Prayer: Dear God, I don't know
where to begin, but I do know that I need to start somewhere, so why not today,
here and now? I have sinned, God, and I have turned my back on You. I am truly
sorry for everything offensive I have done against You, myself and others, and
I am ready to change my ways. I ask You, God, to wash me clean of my
transgressions, and give to me a new heart; one that thirsts for righteousness.
From this moment on, it will be the start of my new life in Christ!
